…surprisingly comfortable….Salon devotees praise her for the space she has created….”

“I think Susana is doing a very brave thing.”

“There are laughter and tears along with the hot rush of blood – to the face.

“I never knew such a life of honesty could exist. I finally found a home I can be comfortable in…this event changed my life.

First-time attendee and reader 2013

I regret having to inform, the Salon will be cancelled for this evening. Snow, snow, glorious snow, which I dearly love under other circumstances, is supposed to make traveling most treacherous. I realized I was willing to walk the 10 blocks from my home, but I’m not willing to risk falling. One new hip and another one scheduled for mid-February, day after Salon. Must play wimp.

Stay home, soak in the tub, enjoy!

Ainsley Burrows also had to postpone his presentation. He feared his travel plans would be thwarted, if he couldn’t return home (Brooklyn) in time to make his Wednesday morning flight. Ainsley will definitely be the featured presenter at the April 15th Salon (note it is early in the month, since April 1st  falls on a Tuesday).

In almost 6 years of hosting the Salon I have cancelled only once, for the Obama inauguration – I was invited and then fell ill. So you can imagine how difficult this decision was for me.

For everyone who signed up to read today, Jan. 21 you will automatically be on the February 18th Salon reading list. Please email me if you are unable to attend next month. There will be two featured presenters in February, Monica Day and an Argentine Tango demonstration.

Hope to see you all next month.

Recommended actions

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow are expected. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Areas of blowing and drifting snow will greatly reduce the visibility especially in open areas later Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. This will result in snow blowing back onto previously plowed roadways. Use extra caution while driving. A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
