I enjoy viewing and collecting erotic art. Shunga is one of my favorite styles of art. If I could only find my way to England this Fall. I qualify, over 16.

The British Museum will open an exhibition of sex in Japan later this year, which will include explicit paintings and illustrations.

Announcing the exhibition during the museum’s annual review, museum director Neil MacGregor said: “sex in Japan is on one level like sex everywhere but on another very different”.

The show will focus on shunga, Japanese art which focus on sex, and why it was produced. Shunga, or spring pictures, originated in Ancient China and were produced in Japan between the 16th and 19th centuries. They sought to depict the sometimes idealised sexual relations between ordinary people.

Mr MacGregor said that shunga “has its own tradition” in Japanese art.

One of the exhibits on display will be an 18th century screen which depicts a “finishing school for tarts”, which Mr MacGregor said shows “all the skills that the successful tart has to address”.
