Artist’s extraordinary photos tell tale of dolls’ miserable relationship
Excerpt from Mail Online article of this wonderful exhibit.
Their lives are filled with dream homes, flashy convertibles and ever-stylish wardrobes but Barbie and Ken’s lives may be less than perfect.
A new photo series titled In The Dollhouse, created by Vancouver-based photographer Dina Goldstein, depicts the world’s most famous doll living a miserable life with her partner Ken.
In the ten-part series, a model posing as Barbie walks into her bedroom where she finds a model posing as Ken, cheating on her.
Of course, Barbie grows suspicious of Ken’s sexuality right from the first frame in the series, which was shot inside four rooms of an art gallery in December 2011.
The story introduces us to the couple as they sit in bed, both reading magazines.
While Barbie has selected an issue of Cosmopolitan, Ken, is shown reading Oprah Winfrey’s O, his face crumpled up as if he is growing emotional over one of the title’s articles.
Barbie sneaks a sideways glance at her partner but it seems that life goes on.
